SMS Ltd specialise in all kinds of engine, transmission, hydraulic, and suspension repairs on all make of HGV, PSV, and light commercial vehicles – with a proven track record for professional work at competitive prices.
Our fully equipped seven-bay workshop with two inspection pits is ideally located just off the A51 at Hixon, near Stafford, where customers will get all the services they need under one roof. Our experienced workshop team can carry out all aspects of maintenance and repairs on all types of commercial vehicles regardless of size and manufacturer.
At SMS Ltd, vehicle safety is at the forefront of what we do. We can co-ordinate and undertake routine safety inspections including brake roller testing, completing the legal requirements for compliance with operators licencing laws. If you need a vehicle preparing for its annual DVSA MOT test we can do that too.
Our excellent reputation has allowed us to work alongside both sole traders and large fleets, adding real value to long-standing partnerships throughout Staffordshire and beyond. We are available to work on one-off jobs or on a contracted basis, with a focus on keeping your vehicles on the road.
Dedicated to delivering a complete end-to-end service, we offer a flexible delivery and collection service to help avoid any disruption to the daily activities of your business. We can also provide a courtesy car and our premises include a comfortable driver waiting room with shower facilities.

The story began over 67 years ago.
In 1955 Les Boulton created the haulage firm H.L Boulton & Sons Ltd. Since then the company has evolved whilst still staying in the hands of the founding family.
Starting as a haulage company, the Boulton brand has grown throughout its 67-year existence and has a long history of serving happy customers throughout Stafford and the surrounding areas.
Today, Staffordshire Motor Services Ltd is led by Matt Boulton, helping companies of all sizes to maintain and repair HGVs and trailers. Matt grew up in Rickerscote Hall, Stafford, where HLB’s transport yard is located, and where Matt gained experience from a very early age.
At 16, Matt began an apprenticeship at Hartshornes Volvo, Stafford – in the very building SMS Ltd is based today. After completing his apprenticeship, HNC and HND in Business and Engineering, he decided to go it alone and serve new customers on-site around the Midlands in 2008.
The small business progressed and in 2013 Matt moved into a small workshop and began building a team of technicians and all the equipment and infrastructure he has around him today.
In March 2022, Staffordshire Motor Services Ltd was incorporated, and moved into a new, full-purpose facility in Hixon, near Stafford, allowing the company to grow and expand its service offering.
